When a major treatment at F80 comes to an end, the result is presented, and sometimes two people cry: the patient, because she is seeing her new smile for the first time, and her dentist right along with her. Dr. Svetla Alpermann leads the practice's dental team, and in all these years those moments have never become routine for her.
The story
IThe first hour
The first treatment step with Svetla Alpermann is not one at all: she asks. About wishes and expectations, about the time frame, about the budget too. From the answers emerges the score of the treatment, tailor-made, step by step, without detours.
Many tell her in this first hour that nobody at the dentist ever really listened to them, that their actual problem went unrecognised for years. That is exactly what the hour is for: listen first, then plan. That is why the lead dentist keeps as many of these first consultations free as her calendar allows; the beginning is too important to her to hand over to someone else.

IIThe foundation
Career wishes from primary school are usually vet, astronaut or pop star and are forgotten again by fourteen. Hers was dentist, and it stayed. What followed looks in hindsight like a blueprint: studies at the Charité as a scholar of the Stiftung der deutschen Wirtschaft, assistant years on Lake Constance, the periodontology curriculum, her doctorate in 2013, plus posts in Germany and Switzerland.
In 2021 she fulfilled the wish on a bigger scale than the primary school child had ever meant it: not simply to be a dentist, but to co-found a practice. As part of F80's founding team she helped bring the practice's vision to life, holistic dentistry at the highest level. Her fields are aesthetics and function: Digital Smile Design, Cerec restorations, composite veneers, plus the care of TMD patients.
To this day, patients bring sentences into her consultations that are older than some dental chairs: veneers don't last, composite is inferior, whitening is harmful. She clears them away kindly, usually with the same answer: that used to be true. With today's bonding techniques and today's materials, almost every case can be treated, often more gently than before.
IIIThe team as her work
Her second work is the team. As lead dentist she advises and trains her colleagues, safeguards the practice's standards and sees nurturing dental talent as her mission. Ly Cao, herself a specialist in root canal treatments, says a sentence about her that is bigger than any certificate: “She sees me.” Colleagues describe her calm as a Zen-like presence: the more complex the situation, the calmer she becomes, until a complicated situation has turned into a solvable one.
Anxious patients feel the same calm: she listens, asks questions, sometimes holds a hand; breathing techniques and hypnosis techniques are part of her repertoire. And at the end of major treatments comes the moment this page began with: the finished result, tears on both sides, her own included.

The craft

- The smile is created on screen first: photos and scans become a simulation, and the person being treated sees the goal before the first step happens. From this she develops a strategic treatment plan with as few appointments as possible, analysed with the help of AI and checked by a dentist. She takes her tools from the defining minds of aesthetics, from Pascal Magne to Christian Coachman.
- TMD, noun Functional diagnostics
- The abbreviation stands for craniomandibular dysfunction: the jaw joint and chewing muscles fall out of sync, there is grinding, clenching and tension. She is the practice's TMD specialist and looks for the cause in the function of the entire chewing system, not just the single tooth. The result is a therapy that fits the findings rather than a pigeonhole.
- Com·po·site ve·neer, noun Minimally invasive aesthetics
- A wafer-thin facing, modelled directly in the mouth from composite, without grinding the teeth for it. The rumour that composite is inferior persists stubbornly; with today's materials and bonding techniques it is outdated. For small corrections the procedure is faster and gentler than the classic ceramic shell, and it is one of her specialities.
From the consultation room
I was advised against veneers in the past. Do they really last?
That advice comes from a different era. With modern bonding techniques I can now treat almost all patients with veneers, reliably and durably. Whether ceramic or composite is the right choice depends on the individual case, and that is exactly what we discuss in the first consultation.
I have bad breath and nobody can find the cause. Can you help?
Yes, because bad breath almost always has a traceable cause in the mouth. We track it down with targeted diagnostics, and once the source is found and treated, the problem usually resolves. The most important step is to bring it up at all.
Does whitening damage the teeth?
Professionally performed and properly supervised: no. I check teeth and gums beforehand, and then whitening is a good way to improve aesthetics. I do not think much of blanket warnings against it; they no longer reflect the state of the art.
