About
With Markus Tzschoppe, a new smile is the result, not the starting point. At the start come questions: about wishes, about goals, about health. Why an aesthetics specialist of all people talks so much about ageing is what his story tells.
The story
IThe question about later
There is a question Markus Tzschoppe hears again and again in his consultations: What can I do to keep my teeth healthy in the long term? Longevity is everywhere, for face, body and mind, and Tzschoppe believes that for the mouth it matters at least as much. Because ageing often begins precisely there, in the oral mucosa and the gums. “You can do something about it,” he says, “and you have to.”
So step by step he is expanding prevention into a programme: vitamin D tests are already part of it, an enzyme test that assesses periodontitis risk and a saliva test for the oral microbiome are in preparation. Anyone who asks him about whiter teeth therefore first gets an assessment: for him, beauty that is meant to last begins with health, not with the drill.
“The sparkle in their eyes when everything is finished: that is what I love.”Markus Tzschoppe, on his favourite moment
IICraft, digital
Behind the sparkle lies craft. Tzschoppe's speciality is high-quality all-ceramic restorations: individually made inlays, partial and single crowns, right up to demanding anterior restorations and complex rehabilitations. The work is done in a digital workflow, with an intraoral scanner instead of an impression, and in many cases the finished ceramic can be fitted the same day. He is just as happy to work one size smaller: small corrections with composite, without any grinding at all, and veneers when more is wanted.
His second field is function: performance splints and the treatment of craniomandibular dysfunction (TMD), together with osteopaths. And in everything the same order applies, especially with people who arrive with their heart pounding: first he breaks the ice. The beginning is a conversation in the Welcome Lounge about wishes, goals and fears too, and treatment then proceeds very gradually, with patience and an explanation at every step.
IIIA breath of fresh air
What patients do not see: to reach this level, the team travels the world. Continuing education regularly takes Tzschoppe abroad, to France for instance, and he enjoys it, new colleagues, new exchange, fresh ideas in his luggage. “I love being able to do this job,” he says, “and working in a practice where I can put it into practice.”
The longevity he preaches, he lives himself: plenty of sport, good food, the occasional good wine. Only with the chocolates at the front of the practice, the tastiest in the city as he sees it, does discipline get difficult. Of all things.
Quick questions
- What patients ask him most often
- How he handles oral care himself. He is happy to explain it, step by step.
- TMD, in brief
- Craniomandibular dysfunction: the jaw joint and chewing muscles are out of sync. He treats it with functional analysis and performance splints.
- The next longevity building block
- A saliva test for the oral microbiome is in preparation; vitamin D tests are already available with him.
- How he lives it himself
- Plenty of sport, good food, the occasional good wine.
The craft
- Ve·neer, noun Aesthetic dentistry
- A wafer-thin ceramic shell for the visible front of a tooth: it corrects shape, colour and position without much substance having to go. Tzschoppe plans veneers in a digital workflow and sees them as the last step of a treatment, not the first; where a small composite correction is enough, it stays at that. His benchmark is a result that looks natural and lasts.
- All-ce·ram·ic, noun Restoration
- Inlays, partial crowns and crowns entirely without metal, made from a digital scan instead of an impression. Ceramic refracts light much like natural enamel, which is why it is his material of choice, from the small inlay to complete rehabilitation. In many cases the finished work is in place the same day, in a single session.
- O·ral mi·cro·bi·ome, noun Longevity
- The community of billions of bacteria in the mouth that helps determine how healthily teeth and gums age; changes often show up here early. Tzschoppe is therefore deliberately expanding prevention, with tests that make risks visible before they become findings. For him, that is exactly what longevity means: not waiting until something hurts.
From the consultation room
What can I do to keep my teeth healthy in the long term?
More than many people think. The basis is a good routine at home and a regular prophylaxis rhythm; on top of that we look at what you cannot see: gums, function and risk factors. Ageing often begins in the mouth, and that is exactly where it can be counteracted.
How do I get whiter teeth and a nicer smile?
Step by step and as gently as possible. Often a professional cleaning and a whitening are enough; for shape and position I work with composite, without any grinding, or with veneers. What we do, we decide together, according to your wishes and your budget.
I have had bad experiences at the dentist. How does the start work with you?
Relaxed. We begin with a conversation in the Welcome Lounge, not in the dentist's chair: I first want to get to know the person, their wishes, goals and fears as well. Treatment then proceeds very gradually, at your pace.
From the practice
“A digitally minded dentist with outstanding craftsmanship, wonderfully at home in prosthetics, functional analysis and with TMD patients. He tinkers, has a real feel for aesthetics and for people, and I am very grateful to be able to work with him.”Dr. Svetla Alpermann, Lead Dentist
